A man and woman have been charged and a firearm seized following a pursuit in the state’s south west.
About 3.30pm yesterday (Monday 11 November 2019) officers attached to Riverina Police District were patrolling Beckwith Street, Wagga Wagga, when they observed a man wanted on outstanding warrants traveling in a purple Daihatsu Charade.
Police gestured for the vehicle to stop, and when the driver allegedly failed to comply a pursuit was initiated.
Shortly after, the vehicle allegedly collided with two other vehicles at the intersection of Darlow and Docker Street. The man fled on foot and was arrested shortly after.
The vehicle continued to travel along South Parade, before a woman allegedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old woman, was arrested on South Parade.
The man and woman were arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station. A backpack containing a firearm and ammunition was located in the backyard of a nearby residence.
The 34-year-old man was charged with possess shortened firearm, give shortened firearm to other, possess ammunition, not keep firearm safely and acquire firearm subject to prohibition order.
He was refused bail and is due to re-appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on 7 January 2020.
The 22-year-old woman was charged with two counts of not give particulars to other driver, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention and police pursuit.
She was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court on 26 November 2019.
Police inquiries are continuing.
