Two men have been charged after allegedly robbing a man during pre-arranged meeting to sell a phone in Sydney’s inner-west.
About 12:30pm (Wednesday 17 July 2019), a man arrived outside a hotel on Terminus Street, Petersham to purchase a phone that was advertised on an online trading site.
On arrival, a 54-year-old man opened the passenger side door and sat in the front seat. He allegedly instructed him to drive, before directing him to stop the vehicle on Brighton Street, Petersham.
It is alleged the man then threatened the driver with a screwdriver before robbing him of cash.
He then allegedly fled by foot towards Railway Street.
The driver chased the man, who had now been joined by a 29-year-old man.
Officers from Inner West Police Area Command, who were investigating a traffic incident nearby, were alerted.
Shortly after the pair were arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station.
The older man was charged with armed robbery and dispose of stolen goods.
The younger man was charged with knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime.
Both were bail refused to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Thursday 18 July 2019).
