Police have charged two men following an investigation into the alleged assault and robbery of a man in the state’s north-west last year.
About 1.20pm on Friday 3 January 2020, officers attached to Central North Police District were called to a remote property in Byrock, about 110km south of Bourke, following reports of an aggravated robbery.
A 75-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Bourke Hospital for treatment. He has since recovered.
It’s alleged the man was injured after being tied to a chair and assaulted by three men, who stole a number of items from the home before fleeing the location.
Local detectives established Strike Force Kinilibah to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and have been assisted throughout the investigation by detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad.
A 27-year-old man was previously charged over his alleged involvement in the incident and remains before the courts.
Following further inquiries, strike force detectives arrested two men, aged 25 and 28, at Bankstown and Revesby Heights from 6am today (Thursday 28 October 2021).
During a subsequent search of the Bankstown property, officers located cash, clothing, mobile phones, and dismantled a small hydroponic set-up. At the Revesby address, police seized clothing.
All seized items will undergo further forensic examination.
Both men were taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with three offences, including take and detain in company with intent to get advantage occasion actual bodily harm, specially aggravated enter dwelling with intent – wound, and larceny.
Additionally, the older man was charged with cultivate prohibited plant less than small quantity, and supply cannabis more than indictable and below commercial quantity.
Both men were refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Friday 29 October 2021).
