Two men have been charged following a police operation targeting multiple break and enter offences and car-jackings in the Albury-Wodonga area.
Operation Bleach was formed in June 2019 to investigate the incidents within the Murray River Police District.
Additional resources were deployed from the Southern Region Regional Enforcement Squad and Raptor South Squad on Friday (5 July 2019), to assist Albury police, who have been working with their Victorian Police colleagues at Wodonga.
Shortly after 7.40pm on Saturday (6 July 2019), officers located a 28-year-old man who they believed could assist police with inquiries.
The man was outside Albury Train Station when he allegedly threatened officers with a knife.
Police activated their emergency lights and the man retreated to his vehicle and drove away. A pursuit was engaged and was terminated shortly after for safety reasons.
About 11.20pm police attended a property in Ebden Street, South Albury, where they found the man in the backyard and arrested him.
He was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with two counts of police pursuit, two counts of drive manner dangerous, resist arrest and use offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.
He was bail refused and is due to appear before Albury Local Court today (Monday 9 July).
About 8.30pm yesterday (Sunday 7 July 2019), police attended a home in Norris Park, Albury, and arrested a 23-year-old man.
That man has now been charged with three counts of aggravated break, enter and steal, three counts of police pursuit, dangerous driving, and several property-related offences.
He has also been bail refused and is due to appear before Albury Local Court today (Monday 9 July).
Police inquiries are continuing.
