NSW police charge two women after unauthorised protest

Two further women has been charged following unauthorised protest activity in the Sydney CBD earlier this week.

The NSW Police Force re-established Strike Force Guard in May this year to prevent, investigate and disrupt unauthorised protests across the state.

About 8.10am on Tuesday (28 June 2022), emergency services were called to the intersection of William and Palmer streets at Woolloomooloo, responding to reports a group of protesters had entered the intersection and were disrupting traffic.

11 people were arrested at the scene and remain before the courts; a number of people in the group dispersed and left the location.

Following further extensive inquiries, strike force officers attended Pitt Street, Sydney, and arrested two women – aged 18 and 19 – about 5.30pm yesterday (Friday 1 July 2022).

Both were issued future court attendance notices for the offences of wilfully prevent free passage of person/vehicle/vessel and pedestrian obstruct driver’s/other pedestrians path.

Both women will face the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 1 September 2022.
