NSW police charge two women with assault police at Fairfield

Two women have been charged with assaulting police, after what had otherwise been positive and cooperative celebrations by crowds gathered in the Fairfield CBD overnight.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command had been monitoring celebrations by an estimated 250 soccer fans who’d gathered on The Crescent about 8.30pm (Friday 15 November 2019), and were pleased with the crowd behaviour and level of cooperation.

As celebrations began winding down, a line of police began dispersing the crowd from the CBD shortly after midnight (Saturday 16 November 2019).

Police will allege when two women refused directions to move on and punched several officers in the face, they were arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station.

A 17-year-old woman has been charged with assault police and resist arrest, she has been given conditional bail to attend a children’s court on Monday 9 December 2019.

A 20-year-old woman has been charged with four counts of assault police and one count of resist arrest. She’s been given conditional bail to attend Fairfield Local Court on the same day.

Police report these were the only arrests during the celebration, no other incidents were reported, and the crowd was otherwise very positive and compliant with officers on scene.
