A woman has been charged following a cross-border pursuit in the state’s Murray River region yesterday.
Officers attached to South East Region Enforcement Squad were in Cahill Place, Albury, about 2.45pm (Tuesday 19 April 2022), when they stopped a white Toyota Camry which had been reported stolen.
As officers approached the stationary vehicle, the driver allegedly drove at police, with a male officer clipped by a door.
The sedan was driven back to Victoria and allegedly hit several vehicles there before crossing back into NSW.
A pursuit was initiated, before it was terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, the sedan was found on fire on Shaw Street in the Springdale Heights area of Albury.
Following inquiries, about 9.40pm, officers from Murray River Police District – including staff from the Proactive Crime Team and Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s South West Puma – attended a home in Mate Street, North Albury, and arrested a woman.
Police will allege she was in possession of a knife and keys for to the stolen car.
The 23-year-old woman was taken to Albury Police Station where she was charged with two outstanding warrants, as well as eight offences, including:
• Use offensive weapon in company to prevent detention
• Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (second offence)
• Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (second offence)
• Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
• Drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner
• Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle)
• Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime – serious indictable offence, and
• Carry cutting weapon upon apprehension.
She was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today.
