NSW police charge woman after graffiti vandalism at COVID clinic; officers assaulted at Wollongong

A woman has been charged with assaulting police and graffiti-related offences in the state’s Illawarra overnight.

About 1.20am (Friday 11 February 2022), a woman entered a COVID testing clinic on Moray Road, Towradgi, and allegedly graffitied writing on a white medical tent and a storage container using black spray paint.

A witness contacted police, and shortly after, officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and spoke to a woman on Towradgi Road, who was allegedly found to be in possession of cans of spray paint.

The 48-year-old was arrested and is alleged to have assaulted two officers. The officers sustained minor injuries.

The woman then taken to Wollongong Police Station, where it will be further alleged, she failed to provide police with her identity.

She was charged with five offences:

  • Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm (x2);
  • Resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty
  • Possess graffiti implement with intent to contravene
  • Destroy or damage property

The Fairy Meadow woman was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 11 February 2022).
