A woman has been charged following multiple pursuits near Wollongong today.
Shortly after 8am (Friday 26 July 2019), police responded to reports a black Ford Territory had broken down on Picton Road at Cataract.
Initial inquiries indicated the car was bearing stolen Queensland number plates.
About 8.15am police located the vehicle and introduced themselves to the driver. The driver was asked for identification and proof of ownership of the vehicle.
The driver walked to her vehicle to retrieve identification and immediately locked the doors, started the vehicle and accelerated away from police.
A pursuit was initiated before being terminated for safety reasons.
A short time later, the Ford was seen in Hurt Parade at Unanderra and a second pursuit was initiated before again being terminated.
About 9am, police received information that the vehicle had been seen abandoned in Avon Parade at Mount Kembla.
Officers from Wollongong Police District attended and located the driver walking through Mount Kembla Park.
The driver, a 29-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.
She was charged with two counts of police pursuit not stop driver recklessly, goods in custody, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, reckless driving, negligent driving and receiving property stolen outside of NSW.
The Victorian woman was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 26 July 2019).
