A woman will appear in court today charged over a crash that killed a man and teenage boy in the state’s Central West earlier this month.
Emergency services were called to the Castlereagh Highway in Merrygoen, east of Mendooran, after a Mitsubishi 380 left the road and crashed into trees about 3.20pm on Saturday 11 July 2020.
Two passengers – a 14-year-old boy and 25-year-old man – died at the scene.
Another passenger, a 13-year-old boy, suffered serious leg fractures and was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
A 17-year-old girl, also a passenger, was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital with a head injury and fractured leg.
Both teenagers remain in hospital in serious but stable conditions.
The driver, a 37-year-old woman, was airlifted to Westmead Hospital with arm fractures.
Following inquiries, crash investigators attended Westmead Hospital about 3pm yesterday (Friday 24 July 2020), and arrested the driver. During a search of her belongings, officers allegedly seized cannabis.
She was taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, two counts of negligent driving occasioning death, two counts dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, two counts of negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and two counts pf possess prohibited drug.
The woman was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 25 July 2020).
