NSW police charge woman with murder after fatal house fire at Wagga Wagga

A woman has been charged following an investigation into a fatal house fire in the state’s south west last year.

Emergency services were called to a home on Tichborne Crescent, Kooringal, about 6.15am on Monday 25 February 2019, after a 41-year-old woman was awoken by the smell of smoke.

The woman was able to escape uninjured; however, a second woman was still believed to be inside.

The woman and neighbours attempted to access the house, but they were unsuccessful.

A short time later, the body of a 36-year-old woman was found inside the home.

Strike Force Burro was established by detectives from Riverina Police District to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators attended a home in Tolland about 8am today (Thursday 21 May 2020), and arrested a 47-year-old woman.

Police will allege the woman attended the Kooringal home in the early hours of Monday 25 February 2019, and set fire to a lounge at the front of the home before fleeing.

The woman was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with murder and destroy/damage property with intent to endanger life.

She was refused bail and is due to face Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Thursday 21 May 2020).
