A man and two teenagers have been arrested after a bus driver was allegedly assaulted in the Sydney CBD overnight.
About 8.40pm on Friday (22 October 2021), officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were called to Lime Street, Sydney, following reports a bus driver had been assaulted.
Police were told the bus – carrying about 25 people – departed the Bateau Bay around 7pm.
During the trip, the driver observed a group of passengers throwing items from the vehicle and waving their arms out the windows.
Upon arriving at King Street Wharf, the driver advised the group he would not be returning to collect them.
A 15-year-old girl allegedly pushed the driver, before exiting the bus with an 18-year-old man and smashing two bus windows.
When the driver exited the bus, he was allegedly assaulted by the 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy.
Officers arrived a short time later and OC spray was deployed to subdue the group.
The man and boy were both arrested at the scene and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.
A short time later, the 15-year-old girl was arrested at Shelley Street and also taken to Surry Hills Police Station.
Following inquiries, the man was charged with damage or destroy property, affray and behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school. He was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 1 December 2021.
The boy was charged with affray and behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school. He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Tuesday 30 November 2021.
The 15-year-old girl was dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
The bus driver sustained minor injuries, however, did not require medical treatment.
