A man has been charged following an investigation into a fatal crash in the Blue Mountains last month.
About 10.30am on Monday 1 November 2021, emergency services were called to the Bells Line of Road, Mount Tomah, about 15km west of Bilpin, following reports of a crash.
Police were told a Mack tipper truck and a Subaru Outback collided, trapping both drivers and their passengers.
Police Rescue, with assistance from Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW State Emergency Service (SES), and NSW Ambulance, worked to free the occupants.
The driver of the Subaru – a 76-year-old man – died at the scene.
The passenger of the Subaru – a 75-year-old woman – along with the driver of the truck – a 60-year-old man – were airlifted to hospital in a serious condition. They have since been released.
A passenger in the truck – a 48-year-old woman – suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital by road ambulance for treatment.
Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command and the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.
Following extensive inquiries, a Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) was issued to a Cambridge Park man – now aged 61 – yesterday (Thursday 9 December 2021).
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, dangerous driving occasions grievous bodily harm, negligent driving (occasioning death), and negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm).
The man is due to appear at Katoomba Local Court on Monday 7 February 2022.
His driver’s licence was also suspended.
