NSW police release CCTV images after attempted sexual assault at Petersham

Police are appealing for public assistance after an attempted sexual assault in Sydney’s inner west last week.

About 1.30am on Thursday 4 April 2019, a 28-year-old woman was standing on the corner of Terminus Street, Petersham, when she was approached by an unknown man.

Police have been told the man forced himself onto the woman and attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman pushed him away, and the pair ran away on Crystal Street in opposite directions.

Shortly after, the man drove past the woman on Crystal Street, and tried to speak to her before driving away.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command were contacted who attended the scene and commenced an investigation.

Detectives have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with inquiries. He is described as being of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean appearance with an olive complexion, aged in his 20s, with a slim build, and a beard.

He is depicted wearing a black polo shirt with a red collar, red vertical stripes on the sides, and a crest on the right breast, as well as cuffed tracksuit pants, a backwards dark trucker hat, and bright red New Balance joggers with a white ‘N’ on the sides.

Investigators are urging anyone with information that may assist inquiries to come forward.
