NSW police sweep CBDs for prohibited drugs

Methylamphetamine and cocaine were among drugs seized during a high visibility police operation targeting the use of prohibited drugs within the Dubbo and Mudgee townships.

Between Friday (15 November 2019) and Saturday (16 November 2019), officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District – along with a drug detection dog from the Dog Unit in Sydney – conducted licensed premises inspections across the CBDs.

Police conducted six business inspections, 32 person searches and five move-on directions.

Police recorded six drug detections resulting in six persons being issued Field Court Attendance Notices for possess prohibited drugs.

Drugs located include MDMA tablets, cocaine and methylamphetamines.

Orana Mid Western Police Districting Acting Crime Manager, Detective Sergeant Joshua Holgate, said police will continue to target the use of prohibited drugs within the district.

About 10.20pm on Friday (15 November 2019), officers attended a licensed premises on Church Street at Mudgee for the purpose of a business inspection.

On approaching two men, it is alleged a 24-year-old man dropped a small bag containing a white powder substance onto the ground and proceeded to step on it.

Police seized the bag which was later identified as containing cocaine.

The man was charged with possess prohibited drug. He was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to appear before Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 8 January 2020.

About 12.25am yesterday (Sunday 17 November 2019), officers attended a licensed premises on Macquarie Street at Dubbo when a drug detection dog indicated the presence of a prohibited drug on a 28-year-old man.

Police searched the man and allegedly seized a small plastic resealable bag containing cocaine.

The man was charged with possess prohibited drug and was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice to appear before Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday 8 January 2020.
