Statement on Royal Darwin Hospital and Palmerston Regional Hospital
1 August 2024
Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH) are experiencing capacity challenges due to a substantial increase in the number of patients requiring acute care and admission to hospital.
To manage the situation and ease pressures on the hospital system, a Code Yellow is now in place at RDH and PRH. Actions are being undertaken to proactively manage capacity and strategies are in place to ensure ongoing patient safety and high quality care.
A Code Yellow is part of the national coding process and is used to respond to a range of internal and external pressures or emergencies that are impacting a facility or a service.
We thank our staff for their hard work during these periods of high demand, to make sure Territorians continue to receive the best patient centred care possible.
The Palmerston Medicare Urgent Care Clinic provides urgent medical care for non-emergencies.
The RDH and PRH Emergency Departments are open 24 hours and are able to provide urgent medical care.
If you are experiencing a health emergency, call Triple Zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.
