In an effort to get as many Tasmanian children vaccinated before the new school year, our special COVID-19 vaccination clinics for 5-11 years will be kicking off first thing next week.
Clinics will be operating in several centres across the North West from day one of the program and parents in the North West of Tasmania are being urged to book their children into one of the special clinics ahead of the commencement on Monday 10 January.
The clinics are set up to deliver the special children’s dose of the Pfizer vaccine which is a third of the adult dose and is recommended by health authorities as the most effective and safe way to protect your children from COVID-19.
More than a third of the 5-11-year-olds are already booked into clinics across the state but the uptake has been slower in the North West, with 20 per cent of children in the region booked in.
In addition to existing vaccine sites, dedicated Children’s Clinics are being established and will be held in:
- Deloraine, Monday 10 January;
- Smithton, Wednesday 12 January;
- Devonport, Saturday-Sunday 15-16 January;
- Burnie, Saturday 22 January and Saturday 5 February; and
- Ulverstone, Saturday 29 January.
Please go online to book now and be aware that you must book under your child’s name not your own.
To see a full list of state-run community clinics and to make a booking visit: or call the Public Health Hotline 1800 671 738.
We expect that all children participating in the vaccination program will have the opportunity to receive at least one dose before school returns, and encourage parents to get their children vaccinated to further protect their family and their community.
The choice to vaccinate children in this cohort – while strongly recommended – is entirely voluntary and will not be mandated.
