Police have charged a man over a number of alleged instances of ‘deep fake’ imagery being sent to schools and sporting associations around Queensland.
On Sunday September 10, police received a complaint from a Brisbane school that had been sent an email including ‘deep fake’ images of students and teachers.
Detectives from Brisbane City Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) with the assistance of the Australian Border Force (ABF) and other agencies uncovered a number of similar incidents that had occurred at other facilities and businesses throughout the south east.
Queensland Police located and arrested a 53-year-old man at Southport yesterday, October 27.
He’s been charged with five counts of obscene publications and exhibitions, one count of obscene publication and exhibition of a child under 16 years and one count of endangering particular property by fire.
He is expected to appear at Southport Magistrates Court today, October 28.
