A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a police officer in CBD convenience store on Monday night.
Police were called to the store on Elizabeth Street about 10pm (Monday 24 January 2022), after staff reported a man had assaulted a customer and stolen food.
Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were at the store when a report came in that a man had been robbed of his watch at Museum Train Station about the same time.
Acting on information provided, police approached a man nearby; however, an altercation ensued during which one officer was bitten on his left forearm.
The 30-year-old man was arrested and taken by Ambulance to St Vincent’s Hospital for assessment.
The injured officer was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before attending Hospital for further treatment.
The Petersham man was later charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated steal from the person, affray, resist officer in execution of duty and assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm.
He was bail refused to appear before Central Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 25 January 2022).
The watch has since been recovered.
