An officer has been injured during a foot pursuit in Wellington today.
About 9.55am on Thursday 7 February 2019, officers attached to the Target Action Group, Orana Mid Western Police District, stopped a vehicle on Maughan Street believing it contained a person wanted on arrest warrants.
Upon stopping, officers noticed a 33-year-old man run from the vehicle jumping a fence of a residential premises at that location.
A constable gave chase and while in pursuit of the man he fell from a backyard fence landing heavily on his side.
The 25-year-old officer suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to Dubbo Base Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Further police assisted in the search for the wanted man and after attending a number of addresses in the Wellington area he was located in another Maughan Street address about 2.25pm.
He was arrested and taken to Wellington Police Station where he has been charged with three outstanding arrest warrants, hindering police in the execution of their duty, along with possession of drugs, housebreaking implements and trespass.
He has been bail refused to appear at Dubbo Local Court tomorrow (Friday 8 February 2019).
