Officer’s nose broken during assault in Sydney CBD

A man has been charged with several offences after allegedly assaulting a police officer in the execution of her duties in the Sydney CBD overnight.

About 12.45am (Sunday 26 May 2019), a 32-year-old man was identified by security staff in a licensed premises on The Promenade at Darling Harbour, as being intoxicated.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command were patrolling the venue and observed as the man failed to comply with a direction by security staff, to leave the venue.

The officers, who were in plain clothes, identified themselves to the man who again failed to leave the venue.

Police will allege that a physical altercation ensued when the man pushed one officer in the chest and punched another officer in the face.

The officer immediately started bleeding from the nose, while other police arrested the man and conveyed him to Day Street Police Station.

The injured officer was conveyed to St Vincent’s Hospital where she was treated for a broken nose, swelling to the face and sore teeth.

The man was later charged with assault police causing actual bodily harm, assault police, resist arrest, offensive language and fail to quit licenced premises.

A long-term banning order will also be applied for.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta bail Court today (Sunday 26 May 2019).
