Officers assaulted; teenager charged at Parramatta, NSW

A teenager will appear in court today after three police officers were allegedly assaulted in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 5.15pm (Wednesday 26 August 2020), officers attached to the North West Police Transport Command were on patrol at Parramatta Railway Station when they tried to stop a teenager after he allegedly jumped a ticket barrier.

After refusing to stop, it’s alleged the 16-year -old became aggressive, pushing a Senior Constable in the chest.

As two other Senior Constables stepped into help restrain the teen, he allegedly began punching and kicking all three officers.

During the altercation, OC spray was deployed, however the youth was unable to be restrained.

The teen continued to resist, allegedly punching one of the Senior Constables in the face a number of times before being tasered.

A search revealed the male to be in possession of two screwdrivers and a pair of scissors.

He was arrested and taken to Auburn Hospital with minor injuries.

One Senior Constable was treated at the scene for minor injuries, while two others were taken to Westmead Hospital.

One officer sustained minor neck and facial injuries as well as a concussion while the other was treated for a dislocated shoulder.

The teenager was later taken to Granville Police Station and charged with cause grievous bodily harm to police officer on duty, two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, assault police officer without actual bodily harm, resist police in the execution of duty, have custody of an offensive implement in a public place and travel or attempt to travel without valid ticket.

He was refused bail to appear at a Children’s Local Court today (Thursday 27 August 2020).
