Officers assaulted; woman and man charged, NSW

Two people have been charged after allegedly assaulting officers while being arrested in Sydney’s Inner West overnight.

About 12.30am (Monday 7 February 2022), officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command stopped a black Ford Ranger SUV at a service station on Great North Road, Five Dock, for the purpose of a Random Drug Test.

Officers approached the driver – a 34-year-old woman – and while speaking with her, she allegedly became verbally aggressive towards police.

The woman was arrested and removed from the vehicle. While being detained, the woman allegedly attempted to bite a female constable on the wrist and threatened the officer.

A short time later, a man arrived at the scene and allegedly threatened a male constable.

The 34-year-old man was arrested, and while being detained, allegedly assaulted the female constable by punching her in the face.

The male constable attempted to detain the man, before the man allegedly punched the officer several times in the face and torso.

A taser was deployed by the female constable, before the man was detained.

The woman and the man were taken to Burwood Police Station, before the man was taken to Concord Hospital under police guard for observation.

The woman was charged with two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, two counts of resist officer in execution of duty, intimidate police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and use offensive language in/near public place/school.

She was given conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 15 February 2022.

Once released from hospital, the man was taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, two counts of resist officer in execution of duty and two counts of intimidate police officer in execution of duty without actual harm.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Monday 7 February 2022).

The officers were treated for minor injuries.
