The Rockliff Liberal Government is delivering for Tasmanians with the muylatina* Child and Family Learning Centre at Mayfield officially opened.
The centre is part of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $28 million commitment to build six new child and family learning centres across the state.
Commencing operations earlier this year and located next to East Tamar Primary School, muylatina offers wrap-around support in a safe and welcoming space for families in Newnham, Mowbray, Invermay, Rocherlea, Mayfield and Lilydale.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said muylatina gives local families with young children a place to build strong community connections while accessing a range of services and supports.
“Our Government is giving our youngest learners the very best start in life by providing access to important services such as playgroups, oral language development programs, parent workshops and early intervention supports,” the Premier said.
Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch said the Rockliff Liberal Government is helping Tasmania’s youngest learners and their families achieve and succeed by investing in the infrastructure and facilities they need to thrive.
“Through the child and family learning centres, we are delivering community-driven services such as Child Health and Parenting, midwifery services, parenting support, psychology, speech pathology and social work which best meet the needs of local children and their families,” Minister Jaensch said.
“I congratulate the staff, families and members of the Local Enabling Group for their input and work into establishing muylatina as a space for everyone in the local community to share and enjoy.”
Our Government has delivered the first of six new child and family learning centres.
Two more centres at Wynyard and West Ulverstone will be completed this year, with the remaining three due for completion in 2024, taking the total to 18.
The opening of the muylatina centre means there are now 13 child and family learning centres across Tasmania.
Each of the new centres have been co-designed through consultation with local communities.
In 2021 the Rockliff Liberal Government also committed $3.82 million for additional child and family learning centre support services. This includes speech and language pathologists, school psychologists and social workers, who are now working in our centres, connecting with families in their local community to support their learning and wellbeing.
This Government is delivering on our long-term plan for Tasmania and we look forward to seeing the centre continue to grow.
