Old toilet block in Romsey Recreation Reserve to be demolished

Work will start next week to demolish the outdated Romsey Recreation Reserve public toilet block and are due for completion by 2 December 2019.

Recreation reserve users (including local sporting groups, residents and visitors) will instead be guided to modern and accessible public toilets just 50 metres away within the Romsey Sport Pavilion. New directional signage will be installed in the reserve shortly after the demolition of the toilet block.

Recently appointed Director of Assets and Operations, Shane Walden, said key users of the recreation reserve were engaged as part of the 2018/19 budget consultation process.

“Despite sporting crews being quite fond of the 1950s toilet block near the Scout Hall, it is no longer compliant with current Council standards or the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.”

“Demolition was flagged in the 2018/19 budget process with Council deciding against the substantial financial investment required to upgrade the old toilet facilities due to the other modern public toilets so close by.”

“This decision is in keeping with Council’s commitment to improving the built environment of Macedon Ranges Shire Council in a financially responsible way.”
