A woman is due to face court over an alleged theft of mail in Sydney’s west.
In November this year, detectives from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation following reports of break and enter in the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾bush area.
It was alleged two people have been targeted mailboxes of unoccupied residential properties on Parramatta Road, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾bush, to steal mail and a spare key to access the property on occasions.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 25-year-old woman at an address on Parramatta Road, ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾bush, about 7.15am on Thursday 28 December 2023.
She was taken to Auburn Police Station where she was charged with possess prohibited drug, larceny, goods suspected stolen in/on premises, and destroy or damage property.
She was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court tomorrow (Friday 29 December 2023).
Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith urged the public to make sure to check their mailbox and location of spare keys before leaving for holiday season.
“During the Christmas and the end of year period, empty mailboxes and houses often become a target of theft. We remind people going on a holiday trip to make sure they lock their mailbox and house properly and empty the mailbox before leaving. Attaching a ‘No junk mail’ sticker on mailbox could be a good option.” Assistant Commissioner Smith said.
