One dead, five injured after SUV and ute crash near Mudgee

A woman has died and four people remain in hospital after a two-vehicle crash which blocked the Castlereagh Highway near Mudgee yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Aarons Pass, south of Mudgee, about 2pm (Friday 5 April 2024), after a southbound ute and a northbound SUV collided in the northbound lane.

Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District found six people injured, four in the SUV and two in the ute.

A 32-year-old woman, who was a front-seat passenger in the SUV, was critically injured. She was taken to Mudgee Hospital but died a short time later.

The driver of the SUV, a 34-year-old man, and the front-seat passenger in the ute, a 68-year-old man, were seriously injured and have been airlifted to Westmead Hospital.

Two girls, aged two and six, who were back seat passengers in the SUV, were taken by road ambulance to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. They are described as being in a stable condition.

The driver of the ute, aged 54, was taken to Mudgee Hospital with minor injuries and for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and investigations are now underway into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
