The City of Greater Bendigo is thrilled to announce Bendigo will host an exclusive Regional Victorian preview of visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis.
The huge crowds the Elvis: Direct from Graceland exhibition is attracting at Bendigo Art Gallery makes Bendigo the perfect destination for this special screening.
The film is a big screen spectacle that explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler), through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Oscar winner Tom Hanks).
There will be 50 double passes for the community to win for the June 22 preview at Bendigo Cinemas, which will feature a red-carpet welcome, selfie wall and live music.
Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said the launch of the film was perfect timing to cross-promote the Gallery’s Elvis exhibition and further draw people to Bendigo.
“Our streets are buzzing off the back of the exhibition and the amazing VIVA Bendigo experiences that local businesses have put together to make for a memorable time for residents and visitors,” Cr Metcalf said.
“The film will provide a renewed sense of excitement amongst Elvis fans and we’ll be using this opportunity to again promote a visit to Bendigo before the exhibition closes on July 17 and Elvis leaves the building.
“It has been such a joyous time in Bendigo over the past few months and you can feel the optimism return across hard-hit sectors of our business community.
“So we’ll continue to ride the wave of Elvis fever for the weeks to come and I am sure many of us will be flocking to the cinema when the film is released nationally on June 23.”
Elvis was filmed entirely on the Gold Coast and stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley, Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker and Australia’s Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley.
