One week left to nominate for Senior of Year Awards

There’s just one week left to nominate a stand-out senior Townsville citizen for the 2022 Senior of the Year Awards.

The awards celebrate the city’s senior residents who volunteer their time, contributing to the wellbeing of the Townsville community.

Mayor Jenny Hill said recognising the volunteer hours locals gave to Townsville was Council’s way to say thank you.

“Volunteers across our community connect people and provide much-needed services to locals. Townsville’s senior residents have knowledge and skills that are invaluable to our community,” Cr Hill said.

“Each year the Townsville City Council Senior of the Year Awards provide public thanks to our city’s quiet achieving seniors.

“Nominations for this year’s awards are open for one more week, so if you know someone who is deserving of praise please get your nomination in as soon as possible.”

Cr Hill said last year’s winners were a prime example of excellence in Townsville’s senior citizens.

“Last year Pamela Redfern and Richard Hosking were awarded for selflessly giving their time and effort to help make Townsville an inclusive place to live for locals and creatures great and small,” she said.

“These are outstanding citizens who help make Townsville a more vibrant and inclusive place to live, while providing much-needed volunteer services for our city.

“Senior citizens are an important part of the fabric of our community and Seniors Week is a great way to recognise the extraordinary way these members of society give their spare time for the betterment of Townsville.”

Nominations for the Seniors Awards close on Thursday 21 July.
