Only 4 weeks left to nominate local hero

The Knox Australia Day Awards are a great opportunity to recognise the work and generosity of a local community champion.

We are looking for people who, in their everyday lives, are making a positive difference to others. This can be through volunteering their time, reaching out to people in need, or simply working to build a healthier and happier community.

Aimee Bugeja, recipient of last year’s Young Citizen of the Year Award, was nominated for her fundraising and volunteering work, and for being a role model for youth leadership in the community. Aimee represents student voice, agency and leadership as an elected member on Scoresby Secondary College Council and the Victorian Student Representative Council. She has also attended multiple leadership forums as a leader for the colleges Rotary Club of Knox Interact Club and as a leader at the Victorian Youth Congress.

Originally confused at why she had been nominated, Aimee says “Then it dawned on me that it wasn’t just one thing. I am lucky enough to be able to advocate and represent not just young Indigenous Australians, but all youth. I am very fortunate to have been given opportunities and platforms to speak up, to use my voice to advocate for others.”

We welcome nominations for heroes across the Knox community, including:

  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Elder Citizen of the Year
  • Local Hero
  • Sustainability Leadership
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Citizen of the Year.

Nominations can be made by by 22 November 2022.
