NSW Government

The sails of the Sydney Opera House will glow pink tonight to honour the life of Dame Olivia Newton-John AC DBE and recognise her immense contribution to cancer research and awareness.

Premier Dominic Perrottet and Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin today announced the lighting up of the world-renowned Sydney landmark to honour the Australian icon.

“Olivia Newton-John touched the hearts of so many people around the world with her music as well as her compassion and kindness – particularly toward people living with cancer,” Mr Perrottet said.

“She radiated with positivity in her lifetime and now our most famous performance space will shine in her honour.”

Mr Franklin said Oliva Newton-John was an Australian arts icon who inspired generations of Australians with her talent and resilience.

“For decades Olivia Newton-John inspired Australians with her artistic ability and unrelenting courage,” Mr Franklin said.

“It is a touching tribute that the Sydney Opera House, a venue she performed at many times, will tonight be cloaked pink in her honour.”

The lighting of the Sydney Opera House will commence from sunset.
