Officers across the Greater Cairns area have charged 49 people in the past week with over 306 property offences as a part of Operation Dryanda, a local property crime operation commenced in May 2021.
In the past four days alone police arrested 25 juveniles and five adults with property related offences and recovered 18 stolen vehicles.
Far North Crime Inspector Kevin Goan praised the work of local officers and detectives who delivered significant results.
“49 people arrested in the past week is an outstanding result for police and for the community and sends an important message to those who wish to break the law.
“We will be unrelenting in our pursuit of you. We remain committed to driving down property crime, much of which is opportunistic in nature.”
Inspector Goan was appreciative of the support the community provided to officers.
“We have a great amount of support from the public; we’re very fortunate in North Queensland where members of the public will come forward and provide us with important information and intelligence,” Inspector Goan added.
“It is a significant asset to us, the value the community brings when they contact police to let us know what they’re witnessing and when they’re witnessing it.”
Members of the public are urged to report sightings of stolen vehicles, suspicious behaviour, and property offences. Do not attempt to intercept stolen vehicles.
Some of the most significant charges in relation to this past week’s action include:
