Police Transport Command and local police officers have concluded the latest operation in a series of high visibility operations reinforcing public safety on the State’s transport networks.
Operation Generate was conducted between Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 February 2024, with the goal to tackle anti-social behaviour and enhance commuter safety across Sydney’s public transport network.
Officers attached to the South West, North West and North Central Police Transport Commands charged 49 people with various offences including sexual touching, possession of a knife in a public place, possess prohibited drugs, and wilful and obscene exposure.

On Thursday 18th January 2024, a 39-year-old man allegedly touched the chest of a 20-year-old woman whilst on a train between Wynyard and Holsworthy. The man was charged with sexually touch another person without consent on Thursday 22 February 2024. He is due to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 13 March 2024.
Just after 9am on Thursday 22 February 2024, police were patrolling a south bound train between Wollongong and Oak Flats. A 32-year-old man was asked to produce his opal card or ticket and was unable to do so. Following inquires, the man was allegedly found to be in possession of 2.08 grams of cannabis, 3.05 grams of Alprazolam, 3.99 grams of methylamphetamine, and a knife. The man was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with three counts of possess prohibited drug, custody of a knife in a public place – subsequent offence, and possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance. He is due to appear before Narooma Local Court on Thursday 14 March 2024.
