NSW Police continue to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of the community and have conducted a two-day high-visibility operation targeting alcohol-related crime and COVID-19 compliance across the state’s Western Region at the weekend.
Police from the seven Western Region Police Districts conducted Operation Pariac last Friday (5 November 2021) and Saturday (6 November 2021), with general duties officers assisted by specialist licencing police to target alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour both inside and around licensed premises.
In 2020, Operation Pariac also included a focus on COVID-19 compliance for both licensees and patrons.
While COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease across the state, officers again worked with venues and licensees to ensure all relevant restrictions were adhered to, and all patrons were able to celebrate in a safe environment.
During the operation –
- Police arrested 18 people and laid 19 charges for offences including assault and drive under the influence,
- nearly 360 licensed premise inspections were conducted with 12 people excluded or refused entry,
- officers detected 16 breaches (including 16 liquor breaches and nine gaming breaches),
- more than 400 random breath tests (RBT) were conducted, and,
- there were no COVID-19 related beaches identified.
Western Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Brett Greentree, said deployments such as Operation Pariac not only work toward maintaining public safety but also increasing community confidence across the region.
“Operation Pariac aims at boosting officer numbers on the ground with a focus on keeping the community safe and ensuring licensed venues comply with the rules and restrictions accordingly,” Assistant Commissioner Greentree said.
“We need to be conscious that the pandemic is not yet over, and as such, we must maintain all relevant safety precautions when out and about, including social distancing, good hygiene and checking into venues using the NSW Health QR codes via the Service NSW app.”
