Police have conducted a high-visibility operation proactively targeting property crime offenders in Orange this week.
Between 5pm Monday 23 October 2023 and 3am yesterday (Tuesday 24 October 2023), officers attached to Central West Police District, Criminal Investigations Unit, the Dog Unit and Macquarie Highway Patrol Command, were deployed in Orange in a high-saturation police operation targeting identified offenders and crime hotspots.
This operation allows police to engage with the public in highly-visible areas and in vast numbers, reinforcing that the police are there to protect the community all day, every day.
Results from Operation Surge include,
• 4 people arrested
• 4 charges laid
• 11 bail compliance checks
• 5 RBT conducted
• 6 person/vehicle searches
Of note, police were patrolling Orange about 10.15pm yesterday (Tuesday 24 October 2023), when they attempted to stop a Kia after observing it travelling at excessive speed on Dalton Street.
When the Kia failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated, travelling through Orange with road spikes successfully deployed on Ophir Road.
The Kia came to a stop on Peisley Street, where three people fled on foot.
Police commenced a foot pursuit and arrested two people – a 35-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man. They were taken to Orange Police Station.
The woman was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
The man was charged with two outstanding warrants for traffic and fraud-related offences and dishonestly obtain property by deception, for an unrelated matter.
Both were refused bail to appear at Orange Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 24 October 2023), where they were formerly refused bail to reappear at the same court tomorrow (Thursday 26 October 2023).
Operation Surge will be continually rolled-out through various deployments.
