Optus launches first-of-its-kind Gen AI Workshop for students as part of Safer Internet Day 2025 initiatives

  • Optus is the first Trusted eSafety Provider to offer a standalone Gen AI workshop for secondary students, focusing on online safety in the age of AI.
  • Over 5,200 students across Australia will take part in facilitator-led Digital Thumbprint workshops throughout February 2025 as part of Safer Internet Day, with thousands more students joining virtual workshops nationwide.
  • Optus will also host a two-day summit for up to 300 school students at its Sydney campus featuring student leaders, educators, and experts discussing digital safety, AI in education, and digital inclusion.

In celebration of Safer Internet Day 2025, Optus is launching a series of initiatives designed to help families, students, and educators confidently navigate the digital world.

Ensuring safe online spaces remains a challenge, with 46% of teens in Optus Digital Thumbprint evaluation stating that their biggest struggle when experiencing cyberbullying is knowing how to protect themselves.

With a clear focus on addressing emerging challenges such as cyberbullying, misinformation, and the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), Optus is expanding its Digital Thumbprint Program, which has already supported over 650,000 students in developing vital online safety skills since its inception in 2013.

Digital Thumbprint Workshops in February

In February 2025, Optus is set to engage more than 5,200 students in facilitator-led workshops across the country. Schools in the following suburbs have been selected for the upcoming sessions:
