Optus sets its sights on Tasmanias North West coast

Local investment delivers improved coverage

Optus has announced it will continue to provide more choice to the North West coast of Tasmania, improving coverage across the region after switching on two new towers in East Devonport and Acacia Hills while revealing plans for a new retail store in Devonport which will provide local jobs.

The new towers provide residents in East Devonport and Acacia Hills with dedicated 4G coverage and capacity, forming part of Optus $3.4 million network investment over the rest of the financial year.

Peter West, Optus Territory General Manager for Tasmania said Optus has continued to invest across Tasmania to improve connectivity and offer Tasmanians competition and choice for mobile services.

Investment for Tasmanians is a priority for Optus, with $2.55 million being invested into improving our network across the state in the last 12 months, building 4 new sites. Its great to know we are building on this over the rest of the financial year and providing more choice to the North West coast with these new sites in East Devonport and Acacia Hills.

In these times of uncertainty, we are committed to doing our part by continuing to focus efforts on maintaining our strong network. The new site in East Devonport provides dedicated mobile coverage for those located East of the city and enhances coverage along parts of Bass Highway, ensuring travellers can stay connected with their family and friends through reliable voice and data access.

As a result of the new site in Acacia Hills, residents have received expanded coverage and capacity along Melrose and Sheffield Roads, contributing to our improving mobile network in the area.

We see and hear the demand for improved mobile coverage in regional and rural Australia, so we are thrilled to be delivering this for residents, businesses and visitors to the North West coast of Tasmania. This also complements our existing relationship with the Federal Government as part of the Mobile Blackspot Program and Tasmanian Government on the Great eastern Drive project.

To add to the great news for customers, we also look forward to opening our first ever retail presence in the North West, located in the Rooke Street Mall.

Optus has recently announced its updated regional offer which gives Australians a fair go by dropping Optus Choice and Optus One plans by 20% across the whole of Tasmania and the Northern Territory, as well as regional parts of SA, NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
