Nillumbik Shire Council has received $500,000 in funding from the Victorian Government to support expanded outdoor dining and entertainment in the Third Step of Victoria’s roadmap to reopening.
The funding, from the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions, will assist Council streamline permit processes, support an increase in outdoor dining on public and private land, and create vibrant public spaces over summer.
Under the Victorian Government’s Third Step, Nillumbik’s cafes, restaurants and pubs can now reopen outdoors with a limit of up to 50, indoors up to 20. Density limits, record keeping and COVID-safe plans are also required.
Retail businesses can also reopen.
Council officers are working to assist our local hospitality businesses reopen using outdoor dining spaces, simplifying our processes, fast-tracking permit applications and waiving Council permit fees.
Footpath trading permits
Permits are being fast-tracked and fees waived until 30 June 2021 to safely enable more outdoor dining on public land. Applications can be made .
Outdoor dining on private land
Council is working with businesses on the best ways to provide safe outdoor dining options on private land. Businesses can complete an Outdoor Dining Expression of interest .
Outdoor dining projects
Council is investigating a range of exciting outdoor dining and entertainment projects and the activation of public spaces including road closures in activity centres, picnic dining and ambient entertainment.
Outdoor dining directory
A new outdoor dining directory is being developed on Council’s website to promote outdoor dining options across Nillumbik.
