Mornington Peninsula Shire has received over $1.6 million of funding through the Australian Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program.
The Program aims to assist a community-led recovery from COVID-19 by supporting local jobs, firms, and procurement.
The following footpath and pedestrian safety projects will be undertaken across the Shire from late 2020 to mid-2021:
- Harrap Road footpath, Mount Martha
- Alma and Field Street footpath, Tootgarook (stage one)
- Illaroo Street footpath, Capel Sound
- Cool Store Road footpath missing link, Hastings
- Frankston-Flinders Road footpath missing link and Park Lane pedestrian refuge, Somerville.
These projects will be delivered through local industry and locally sourced materials where possible, a key priority for the Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Program.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Sam Hearn said “as part of the Council Plan 2017-21 and Council’s Pedestrian Access Strategy, we are working hard on improving our road and pedestrian network throughout the Peninsula”.
“Our footpath network plays a vital role within our communities and is heavily relied on, especially during this current pandemic we are all facing.
“It is our core responsibility as a local council to not only improve pedestrian safety and accessibility but provide a robust pedestrian network to encourage greater health and wellbeing,” concluded Councillor Hearn.
