Police have arrested two men in a stolen vehicle after a pursuit in Melbourne’s north this morning.
Officers were patrolling on Albert Street in Preston when they observed a stolen black Lexus four-wheel-drive travelling north about 12.17am on 18 September.
Officers attempted to intercept the car, but the driver allegedly turned off their head lights and took off at a high speed.
The police Air Wing quickly responded and located the car allegedly travelling at 130km/h on Bell Street before alerting officers on ground.
Officers then deployed stop sticks on Sydney Road in Fawkner which came to partial effect as the car slowed, but the driver continued to evade.
Police followed the car towards Headley Street where the driver allegedly performed a U-turn and collided with a police vehicle before taking off towards the Preston area.
The driver entered a shopping centre car park on Murray Road and was boxed in by waiting units who arrested both men about 2.30am.
An officer discharged a conducted energy device towards one man during the incident who was subsequently assessed by paramedics at the scene.
A 20-year-old man has since been charged with 14 offences including theft of motor vehicle, fail to stop vehicle on police request, careless driving, drive in a manner dangerous, aggravated reckless exposure of police officer to risk by driving and commit indictable offence on bail.
The Northcote man will appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court today.
A 19-year-old Thomastown man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, handle stolen goods and possess controlled weapon.
He was bailed to appear before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 15 February 2021.
