Parkdale Yacht Club to get long-awaited rebuild

Kingston Council has approved a much-needed redevelopment of the aging Parkdale Yacht Club that will ensure the club’s future for decades to come and open it up to additional community groups.

The $3 million investment, will see the old building completely rebuilt and will provide new compliant facilities and fit-for-purpose amenities.

It will be used by Parkdale Yacht Club, Kingston District Girl Guides and Beach Patrol Australia.

The rebuild will include improved accessibility, increased storage space and a modern design that maximises use of the space but retains the existing footprint. The Parkdale Yacht Club has also contributed $100,000 to the cost of the redevelopment.

The original club was first established in 1946 and the existing clubhouse built in 1964.

Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley said the redevelopment of the Parkdale Yacht Club is well overdue.

“This important investment will give the aging building a new lease of life that will ensure future generations are able to make use of this popular club in our community for years to come,” Cr Oxley said.

The redevelopment will also see enhanced sustainability measures put in place including roof-top rainwater harvesting for flushing and boat wash-down, water efficient utilities, energy efficient lighting and an efficient air conditioning system.

“This will be a modern, sustainable facility that has been designed in collaboration with the club and community groups, everyone involved is looking forward to seeing the new yacht club on our beautiful foreshore come to life,” Cr Oxley said.

Building works are expected to begin in January 2020 and be completed by August/September 2020, in readiness for use in the 2020/21 sailing season.

Stairways and ramps will remain open during construction and full access to the beach will be maintained. Access to some areas of the promenade will be restricted and signage will be installed to redirect beach visitors.
