Parkers delight in West Perth

West Perth visitors and residents can now enjoy extended free parking following a decision at the City’s April Council Meeting.

Council agreed to extend the current one-hour free parking initiative on Hay St to include 60 new bays between Harvest Terrace and Thomas Street from Monday – Saturday.

Also part of the program, West Perth will a see 226 more free parking spots for Saturday shoppers and diners. There will also be an expansion of the popular Saturday free parking on Hay St – with 78 more free parking bays between Outram Street and Colin Street.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said extending free parking supported a vibrant area of Hay Street in West Perth, which has a large concentration of shops and local eateries.

“Offering more free parking across West Perth gives people a strong incentive to visit the neighbourhood, browse the shops or grab a bite to eat.

“We’ve heard that the cost of parking is a barrier for some people to come into the City and so we want to make City parking more accessible for the people of Perth.”

With 350 new free parking bays across the neighbourhood, the Lord Mayor commented the new parking options may encourage other West Perth businesses to consider Saturday trading.

“This new parking initiative in West Perth is just one of the many ways we’re supporting City businesses to bounce back after COVID-19.”

As well as free parking across West Perth, the City of Perth offers on weekends at His Majesty’s, Perth Cultural Centre and Pier Street central carparks. And free parking .
