Parking meters to be reactivated

Swan Hill Rural City Council will be reactivating parking meters at the end of this month.

Council CEO John McLinden said with recent easing of COVID-19 restrictions the meters would be activated from Friday, 30 October.

“Council deactivated parking meters on 30 March in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

“With easing of restrictions and the peak season approaching, we will be reactivating our parking meters from 30 October,” he said.

Mr McLinden said in the lead up to the reactivation of parking meters, parking signage must still be followed.

“I hope residents take advantage of the final days of free parking, however they must be aware that parking time limits and restrictions still apply, this includes loading and disabled parking bays,” he said”.

Mr McLinden stressed that parking time limits are being enforced.

“Parking turnover is important to ensure customers can easily visit local businesses and access services they need,” he said.

“People not following parking signage and time limits make this difficult,” he added.

From Friday, 30 October 2020 parking meters will be reactivated and fines will be issued for not displaying a valid parking ticket or obeying the signage.
