Parramatta Lunar New Year Celebrations Postponed

City of Parramatta Council is postponing its Lunar New Year celebrations in response to performer and community concerns about the new coronavirus.

The festival was scheduled to take place on Friday 7 February in Centenary Square, featuring live music, dance performances, workshops, and food stalls.

“Lunar New Year is one of the City of Parramatta’s most important and popular cultural events. However, due to public health concerns within our community, Council has decided to postpone the celebrations,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

“It is unfortunate that we won’t be able to celebrate on 7 February, but this decision has not been taken lightly.

“Council will continue to monitor the situation and is consulting with performers, stallholders and community representatives, about rescheduling the event.

“I would like to thank our community for their continued support, and wish everyone a very happy Lunar New Year.”
