The McGowan Government, through Horizon Power’s Community Partnerships Program, has awarded more than $500,000 to 46 community organisations across Western Australia.
Applications were received from a broad range of community groups for the second round of funding, including sporting associations, arts and cultural groups, women’s groups, and animal welfare organisations. Aboriginal Corporations, Chambers of Commerce, tourism organisations and local governments also submitted applications.
Successful applicants include the Broome Aboriginal Media Association (for funding that will help deliver the cross-regional Young Indigenous Women’s Pathways Program) and Mirima Council Aboriginal Corporation (for funding that will support the development of children’s bilingual language learning resources).
The funding will also help local governments deliver accessible community events such as the Town of Port Hedland’s Spinifex Spree Carnival and the Shire of Shark Bay’s Beats in the Bay festival.
Other community groups, such as the Esperance Goldfields Surf Life Saving Club and Carnarvon Netball Association, will receive funds for equipment upgrades and training programs.
This funding builds on the $1.1 million awarded to 116 community organisations in 2020-21 and continues the McGowan Government’s strong legacy of partnering with regional communities.
Applications for Horizon Power’s 2022-23 Program will open in July 2022. For more information, visit
As stated by Energy Minister Bill Johnston:
“The McGowan Government is committed to making a positive contribution to the wellbeing of regional Western Australian communities.
“Community organisations, like these being supported by Horizon Power’s Community Partnerships Program, support the sustainability of vibrant communities across WA.”
