Pastoral Lands Board welcomes two new members

  • Appointments reflect diversity of pastoral industry and will run until June 30, 2023
  • Pastoral Lands Board administers State’s 490 pastoral leases
  • Lands Minister Tony Buti today announced the appointment of Wendy Brockhurst and Tim Meecham as Pastoral Interest Members to the Pastoral Lands Board (PLB).

The appointments will ensure the PLB continues to offer the highest level of expert advice to the Minister, with a broad membership that represents the diversity of the pastoral industry and regional Western Australia.

Ms Brockhurst, of Larrawa Station near Halls Creek, has been involved in the pastoral industry since 1994, having worked with her family to turn a ‘bare block’ into a productive cattle enterprise, augmented by pastoral-based tourism.

Mr Meecham, of Quobba Station on the Ningaloo Coast, previously served on the Pastoral Lands Board from 2015 to 2018. He and his family operate a successful tourism business to complement his pastoral business, focusing on growing Damara sheep for the live export market. Mr Meecham’s experience with the Carnarvon Ningaloo Coastal Strategy and the pastoral industry in the Gascoyne region will be an asset to the PLB.

Ms Brockhurst and Mr Meecham replace outgoing members Ashley Dowden of Challa Station and Jack Burton of Kilto Station who have served on the Boards since 2017 and 2012, respectively.

As stated by Lands Minister Tony Buti:

“I extend my congratulations to Ms Brockhurst and Mr Meecham on their appointments to the Pastoral Lands Board.

“The PLB is a diverse and evolving entity to which these appointments will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will extend the Board’s vision to foster new opportunities and ventures such as tourism.

“I thank outgoing members Ashley Dowden and Jack Burton for their service and look forward to continuing to work with the Board to maintain a sustainable and prosperous pastoral industry for WA.”
