Local carers are invited to take part in Surf Coast Pathways for Carers – a free walking event that offers carers an opportunity to connect with each other, connect with nature, and learn about services and supports available to them.
The first Pathways for Carers event will be held in Anglesea on Monday 20 February – postponed from the original November date which was unable to go ahead due to wet weather.
Carers from across the shire can join the accessible walk, meeting at the Anglesea Changing Places Facility carpark for a 2km return stroll. The walk will be followed by a complementary morning tea at 4 Kings Coffee and Food, Anglesea.
Councillor Mike Bodsworth was proud to partner with Pathways for Carers, which coordinates the walks across Victoria.
“According to Carers Victoria, a carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to family members or friends with a disability, mental illness, chronic health issue or an older person with care needs,” Cr Bodsworth said.
“It’s an incredibly important role and while it can be rewarding, it can also be challenging at times. A monthly walk is a great way to encourage social connections for local carers and for them to find out more about what services and supports are available.
“We were unlucky for this event to be rained out back in November, so hopefully 20 February is a beautiful summer day in Anglesea.”
Surf Coast Pathways for Carers will become a regular event, held on the third Monday of the month. A guest speaker will attend each walk, with Pathways for Carers Project Manager Michelle Willoughby featuring at the inaugural event.
Local carers can for the Monday 20 February walk or turn up on the day without booking.
The Anglesea Changing Places car park is located at 78 Great Ocean Road.
