Peak Hill Showground Secures Funding to Combat Weed Invasions

Parkes Shire

NSW ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Upper House MP Sam Farraway today announced more than $5,000 has been awarded to the Peak Hill Racecourse to maintain and preserve the grounds ahead of the 2023 racing season.

“This funding by the NSW Liberal and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Government is part of a suite of investments across Parkes and surrounds that are improving the community facilities that locals have access to,” Mr Farraway said.

“Following a year of unprecedented rainfall, local businesses and councils have seen a huge increase of weeds invading their properties, parks and showgrounds.

“This $5,219 grant will bring an immediate fix to this problem at the Peak Hill Racecourse by covering the cost of new weed control equipment including sprayers and chemicals which will specifically target Boxthorn, Bathurst Burr, Tiger Pear and other invasive weeds.

“Not only will this ensure the showground can get on with the job of removing the unwanted weeds but will also ensure the facilities are in tip top shape for the 2023 racing season.

“It is great to see the NSW ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s in government supporting local towns to put on the best races and shows in 2023 which are such important events in bringing country communities together.”

The grants are part of $16.48 million being offered to support 264 projects on Crown land reserves across NSW to benefit many thousands of people and the cultural, sporting and recreational life of hundreds of local communities.

The NSW Government previously provided over $479,000 under its Showground Stimulus program to Canowindra, Trundle and Peak Hill showgrounds to upgrade Canowindra’s tea-room, install underground power, replace the pavilion, and repair drainage; for Trundle to replace old stables and upgrade hospitality facilities; and for Peak Hill to replace its sheep pavilion.
