About 11.35am (Thursday 26 September 2024), emergency services were called to Hamilton following reports of a crash.
At the scene, police were told that a car had allegedly collided with a pedestrian at the intersection of Beaumont and Hudson Street.
The pedestrian, a man aged 73, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital suffering head injuries.
The driver of the car, a man aged 66, was taken to the John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.
The man was then arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with dangerous drive cause GBH and negligent drive cause GBH and his driver’s licence was suspended as a result of the incident.
He was refused bail and will appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Friday 27 September 2024)
