Pedestrian struck by vehicle on Argyle Street

A 46 year old woman from the Derwent Valley is in hospital after being struck by a car on Argyle Street, North Hobart about 8.30am today.

The collision, near the corner of Argyle and Tasma Streets, occurred when the woman was crossing the road.

She was hit by a reversing Hyundai Tuscon SUV which was about to be loaded onto a car carrier trailer.

The woman suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The driver of the Hyundai was a 57 year old man from Devonport. He was not injured.

Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services attended the scene.

Initial investigations indicate inattention and reversing a vehicle further than reasonable may be contributing factors in the crash.

Argyle Street was closed between Tasma Street and Burnett Street for about two hours while investigations were undertaken.

Police would like to thank motorists for their patience during this time.
